The Port Antonio Infant School is an Early Child Hood Institution that is situated at 8 East Palm Avenue, Port Antonio in the parish of Portland. The Port Antonio Infant School now maintains an average enrollment of two hundred (200) students which spreads across nine (9) classes inclusive of two (2) Kindergartens and class ones and twos, and caters to student’s ages three (3) years and eight (8) months to six (6) years.
The school is owned and operated by the Ministry of Education, Youth & Information. The building houses nine (9) classes, a Kitchen, Lunchroom, Library, a Principal’s office and a Guidance Counsellor’s room.The school is without a staff room as the space was re-purposed to facilitate operations. There are adequate bathroom facilities for boys and girls as well as staff members.
The staff complement includes the Principal, Guidance Counsellor and nine (9) classroom teachers. The teacher’s qualification includes a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, four (4) with BSc. and three (3) Diploma trained. There are three (3) ancillary workers and two (2) relief watchmen.
The school curriculum emphasis is on reading which focuses on four principal areas; Speaking Listening, Observation and Manipulation. A cooked lunch is served daily to 90% of our students. The school also has an active Parent Teachers Association which meets every first Wednesday of each month.
